What’s the difference between this program and home schooling?
Although they will be working from home, students participating in Leon County Virtual School are not classified as home schoolers since they are enrolled in this public school program. As such, they must meet the same requirements as students attending school in bricks & mortar facilities:
- They must take a full load of five classes each semester, following the pupil progression plan, leading to eventual graduation.
- They must take the FCAT.
- They can participate in events scheduled for virtual students and events/activities at their home zoned school.
- Upon successful completion of the required courses and passing the FCAT, these virtual students will earn a Leon County Schools diploma rather than a GED certificate.
What do I tell the school my child is leaving?
- You must officially withdraw your child from the school they are currently attending. When you do this, inform that school that your child will be enrolling in Leon County Virtual School.
- If your child is currently registered as a home school student with Leon County, you must inform the Home School Office that you will no longer be home schooling since your child will be enrolled in Leon County Virtual School. Link to High School Terminiation form.
