Welcome to the Middle School Rezoning Website
Leon County Schools must determine new school attendance zones for middle schools as a result of the closing of Belle Vue Middle School. After the end of this school year, Belle Vue will close its doors a final time and those students will attend a different middle school when the 2009-10 school year begins. A committee has been appointed by Superintendent Pons to develop new school zones. The committee will meet regularly during the month of March. Meetings are to be held at various locations and times in order to allow as many people as possible to be part of the zoning process. Each meeting is a public hearing to allow for community input. We know the parents and students of Belle Vue are anxious to find out what their new school will be. Out of respect for the students and parents involved, we will try to expedite this process and still allow as much opportunity for input as possible. It is our goal to have a proposed rezoning plan prepared by the end of March and approved by the Leon County School Board by the end of April so that our families and our faculty and staff can prepare.
Superintendent Pons wants the zoning process to be deliberate, transparent and as inclusive as possible of everyone's suggestions. In order to have successful schools, we must have public participation.
Thank you for your interest in the rezoning process. I encourage you to join our listserv so that you can receive regular updates and information. If you have any questions or comments, please contact the planning office at 487-7235.
