Instructions for Becoming a Substitute Teacher:

 

We are delighted that you may be interested in applying for a Substitute Teacher position with Leon County Schools. The information listed below will assist you, if you decide to pursue substitute teaching.

 

The educational requirement to be a Substitute Teacher in Leon County Schools is 60 hours of college credit (AA/AS degree equivalency).

 

In addition to the above criteria, the following procedures must be fulfilled to be become a Substitute Teacher.

 

  1. Complete a Paperless Applicant Tracking System (PATS) Application at https://pats.leon.k12.fl.us/

 

  1. Apply for the Substitute Teacher Job Posting in PATS

 

  1. Return a completed Leon County Schools Substitute Teacher Packet. Hard copies are available at the District office at 2757 West Pensacola Street.

 

  1. Submit at least one (1) Employment Reference Form via eReference

 

  1. Submit OFFICIAL transcript(s) in the sealed envelope issued by the college or university

 

6.     Present original Drivers License and Social Security card.

 

  1. Be fingerprinted and cleared, prior to attending training.

 

  1. Attend Substitute Teacher training and complete all class requirements.

·         5 hours for applicants with a conferred degree majoring in Education and a completed student internship; or verified professional teaching experience

·         20 hours for all other applicants

 

 

All of the above requirements must be completed, before a Substitute Teacher Certificate is approved and issued.
